Our History
Douglasville was orginally known as "Skint Chesnut" before being re-named for Senator Stephen A. Douglas(of famed Lincoln-Douglas debates.) Local lore tells that Native Americans used
a large chesnut tree at a trail crossing as a landmark. To make the tree more conspicuouse, the Indians skinned it from top to bottom. Years later, roads began to converge at the point and it continued to be used a landmark for directions for many years.
